5 Reasons Why I Chose Edinburgh For Our Girls' Trip

When I am choosing a destination for our retreats and girls' trips at Harmony Travel, I mostly rely on my intuition. My intuition doesn't select a location, but rather it nudges me into an area. An area steeped in ancient history and inhabited by strong women throughout time.

I have never had a strong interest in Scotland, but it continued to draw me in. Then, I started booking clients on their Scotland adventures and understood why I was feeling the nudge to go to Scotland. It checked everything off my "must have" list.

The combination of rich history and modern luxury makes Edinburgh, Scotland the perfect destination for a retreat or girls' trip.

1. Compact City: Edinburgh's compact size means more time experiencing all the city has to offer and less time traveling between attractions. Everything from world-famous castles to charming pubs and elegant restaurants is within walking distance or a quick hop-on-hop-off bus ride. You'll maximize your time together while minimizing travel stress. This also makes logistics much easier to organize.

I also like to provide downtime or time for my guests to wander. Edinburgh is the perfect city for them to wander on their own, grab some whisky, or shop without the stress of traveling outside of the area.

2. Luxury Stays and Experiences: Nothing says "girls' trip" like feeling like absolute royalty together. Edinburgh not only has so many beautiful options for luxury accommodations, but it also offers world-class afternoon tea experiences at elegant venues, such as the Balmoral Hotel, complete with harpist serenades and glass dome ceilings. Pair that with luxury accommodations and dining experiences in the heart of the city, and you'll be creating unforgettable memories with your guests.

3. Rich History & Mystical Culture: What drew me to Edinburgh was its incredible layers of history, which have created such a unique culture. We'll walk the same streets where Mary Queen of Scots once ruled and where accused witches were tried centuries ago. The city's dark past has shaped everything from its Gothic architecture to its legendary ghost stories and vibrant storytelling traditions. Edinburgh's history isn't just confined to museums; it's alive in the cobblestone streets, ancient castles, and even the local folklore that continues to influence the city today.

4. Fairy-Tale Castles Made for Photoshoots:  I found a fantastic photographer in Edinburgh who focuses on creating Scottish experiences and photos. Edinburgh is built around a medieval castle perched dramatically on an extinct volcano - talk about Instagram gold! From the iconic Edinburgh Castle towering over the city to nearby gems like Stirling Castle and Falkland Palace, you'll have endless opportunities for that perfect group shot. Plus, many offer professional photoshoot experiences where you can channel your inner Scottish queen with the most stunning backdrops imaginable.

5. Unforgettable Culinary Adventures: From traditional Scottish fare at cozy restaurants to elegant dining experiences, Edinburgh's food scene is perfect for sharing and trying new things together. Whether you're sampling local whisky, indulging in fresh scones with clotted cream, or celebrating with a farewell dinner at an enchanting restaurant, every meal becomes a memorable moment with your group.

Edinburgh not only met my expectations during the planning process, but it also exceeded them in every way. This city perfectly embodies what I look for in a destination: a place where strong women have left their mark throughout history, where luxury meets authenticity, and where every corner tells a story. From the moment we step off the plane to our farewell dinner, Edinburgh will envelop us in its magical embrace, creating the kind of memories that bond friendships forever.

I've seen how Scotland transforms my clients when I send them there, and I know it will have the same effect on us. There's something deeply powerful about the idea of walking where queens once ruled and witches once lived, all while being pampered like royalty ourselves. Edinburgh isn't just a destination - it's an experience that I believe will stay with us long after we return home.
